Don't you just love it when an idea comes out of nowhere? This happened to me just recently. I was looking for some kid prayer tools in the toy section of a local store. They had a plastic bowling set and some alphabet bean bags. Instantly I knew these were both things we could use. Another idea came from the kids in the prayer group at my local church. They were using a balloon to play four square - hmmm I know we can play four square using the kids prayer clock !!!
The following week we spent 40 minutes of the prayer time outside in the beautiful weather praying for people and learning the different steps of the prayer clock. On the bowling pins we used masking tape to put the names of various ministry leaders from our church on each one. The pins left standing were the ones the child prayed for. If they got a strike they worshipped God. If they didn't knock any pins down they prayed for missionaries or countries. We used the prayer clock for the four square by drawing the square and writing one part of the prayer clock in each square. The kids played the game as usual and when one person got out they all did whatever step was written in the square of the person who was out.
This week we used the alphabet bean bags as a variation of the Adoration Alphabet. We placed two buckets in our room. One had the bean bags in it and the other was empty. The kids would pick up a bean bag and call out a word to describe God using the letter on the bean bag. Then they tried to toss the bean bag into the other bucket. After everyone had a few turns we switched up the activity a bit and the kids had to think of a country that started with that letter and pray for the country.
For less than $20.00 I was able to find prayer tools that will be used again and again. If you don't frequent the toy section at your local store start to ... you never know when you will get an unexpected idea for prayer.
